Health and Wellbeing

There’s no doubt about it – enjoying the outdoors makes us feel good. It doesn’t matter how we do it – in this neck of the woods we are spoiled for choice
It’s time to feel good…
Whether it’s a trip to the nearest park with the kids, or a business meeting in a tranquil area , enjoying the wonderful outdoors of Argyll and the Isles will cheer anyone up! Here’s exactly why:
It improves our physical health - walking, cycling, gardening and conservation work all increase levels of physical activity which reduces the risk of illnesses or poor health. It improves our mental health - spending time surrounded by nature has a calming and restorative cognitive effect. It is good for the generation of tomorrow - children’s physical and social development are increased by participating in outdoor activity essential for early years development, as well as for the older children and teenagers.
How we act*…
Health and wellbeing is extremely important to us and we look at all of our projects from the perspective of health and wellbeing. We help develop access, signage, health walk programmes and other projects with our partners in the Argyll Health and Wellbeing Network.
There are seven local Health and Wellbeing Networks in our area: Bute, Cowal, Helensburgh, Islay, Kintyre, Mid-Argyll, and Oban, Lorn and the Isles. They allow people to come together to identify what issues matter to local communities. We hope to be able to assist by enhancing the network of people and resources already in place.
*act is still in its infancy and some actions detailed here are still in planning phases and not yet active. However it is our sole intention to get these projects up and running as soon as possible – and when we do, you’ll be the first to know.
How you can act….
Get out there, enjoy it and breath it in! There’s so much to see and do. Why would you want to be indoors when you are surrounded by such stunning scenery? Go for a walk with a friend, have a picnic under a tree or take a kayak out on a loch for the afternoon. It’s guaranteed to make you smile.
Find out how you can get involved in act projects improving health and wellbeing here.
You can also help us by making a donation and/or becoming a member, friend or business supporter. You’ll get to voice your opinions and you’ll always be kept in the loop with how we act and who we act with. You can even suggest a project to us. We’d love that.! Find out more here.
